An AMA District II Club

After incorporating in 1979, and obtaining a use permit from the town of Schroeppel, the Syracuse Thunderbirds Aero Radio Society model airplane club purchased twenty three acres of farmland four miles east of Phoenix, New York, for the specific purpose of promoting the design, construction and organized flying of radio control aircraft.

Today, over seventy members enjoy flying off nearly nine and a half acres of well maintained grass runways. The Club Membership is comprised of modelers with varying degrees of experience and interest. Some have many decades of experience in the hobby, some are just starting out in the fun world of model aviation. On any particular weekend, you may find any number or combination of "Sunday Sport" type R/C aircraft, sailplanes, gliders, pattern birds, pylon racers, WWI or WWII Scale aircraft and maybe a helicopter at the field. Occasionally, a flying witch or flying saucer may also be found cruising around the skies!!!

In October 2003, the Club purchased 19.1 acres of farmland from a neighboring estate to the east of the existing property.  The STARS now have over 42 acres of land dedicated to RC modeling!!

Visitors are always welcome when the field is open.
